Overview
The Boston University (BU) School of Public Health and the Montana State University, in collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute – Nigeria Strategy Support Program (IFPRI-NSSP), is pleased to announce a series of six technical webinars aimed at strengthening the analytical skills of technical stakeholders, researchers, and students. This initiative is designed to support evidence-based adaptation strategies in response to extreme heat and Land Cover Land Use Change (LCLUC), with a focus on gender-sensitive responses, especially for women in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
Objectives
Participants will learn how to:
- Access and integrate publicly available historical weather and climate data with administrative (e.g., census) and survey data (e.g., demographic, health, food, agriculture) using Python.
- Utilize Google CoLab, a cloud-based interactive computational notebook environment, to run code and perform analyses in real time.
- Engage with follow-up tutorials and homework exercises (starting after the second session) to reinforce learning.
Key Features
- All data and code will be pre-written, publicly accessible, and ready to run.
- Participants can execute the code during live sessions.
- Certificate of Completion will be awarded to those who attend all sessions and complete required exercises.
Participant Requirements
- Google Account
- Stable Internet Connection
- Prior coding experience (in Python, R, JavaScript) or familiarity with statistical/geospatial software (e.g., STATA, ArcMap) is advantageous but not required.
