The Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project has been collaborating with various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including the Association of Deans of Agriculture in Nigerian Universities (ADAN) on efficiency and effectiveness. As such, a 3-day training on Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning training was conducted for the staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State (FUAM) from 27th to 29th November 2019. This training was facilitated by the IFPRI-Nigeria and Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria.
The training had in attendance 23 participants (17 males and six females) that work in Kogi State University, Ayingba, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Federal University Wukari and Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi. The objectives of the MEL training were to improve on the M&E skills of the staff of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State through capacity building, and to identify M&E gaps in the academic research activities of the staff of FUAM.
The training was intensive and highly participatory, and participants learned the basic principles of M&E, stages in M&E System, development of M&E plan and frameworks, managing data, data collection, and presentation for decision making, among others. To ensure that the modules presented were adequately understood, there were breakout sessions where participants had groups for assignments, mainly on the development of M&E frameworks, and each group presented their results in plenary.
This training is part of the activities of the Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project. The project is jointly implemented by IFPRI’s Nigeria Strategy Support Program (IFPRI-NSSP) and Michigan State University with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID/Nigeria).
