On October 20, 2016, the Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project was contacted by United States Institute of Peace to participate in a high-level consultation involving 19 state governors from Northern Nigeria in Washington, D.C.
State governors were on a tour exploring opportunities to attract investments to their states and promote various state objectives, typically involving agriculture. Dr. Oyinkan Tasie, representing the project, participated in a panel discussion on “Leveraging Natural, Organizational, Financial and Human Resources to Prepare for Investment” moderated by Dr. Paul Lubeck of John Hopkins University. The panel discussion was used to highlight the project as a special purpose vehicle funded by the USAID Nigeria Mission.
Other project activities, including research output and engagement on agriculture and agricultural policy in Nigeria, were shared. This information was well received, particularly the research output on specific states. Several governors, including those of Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Kwara and Plateau States, shared their direct contacts and extended an invitation for a project team visit to their states.
